Kimbo, the super dog

We've traveled with Kimbo quite a bit, taking him camping, on family visits throughout Texas, and across country to Occupy DC and Pueblo House. Now we're preparing to take him with us on the road.

Kimbo was 10 months old when we adopted him from Town Lake Animal Shelter in March 2011. A cross between a Staffordshire terrier and an American bull dog, he attended obedience training through a Love-A-Bull program for new bully breed owners. We learned "a tired dog, is a good dog," so we keep him well exercised.

His favorite thing in the world is to play fetch, mostly with a tattered rope. Even if it's fetching a Kong across the kitchen floor, Kimbo can't get enough. He also goes wild for squeaks and immediately destroys anything but the most durable toys, like those made by Invincibles brand.

He gets along with our cats, socializes with other dogs, and always gives the backyard chickens ample space. Most of all, Kimbo enjoys our company. He wants to be where ever we are, but does well on the sofa while we're away at work or running errands.

Kimbo also knows a decent repertoire of tricks, including high five, heel after a long stay, running a loop around an object (left or right), and weaving through my legs. While playing fetch with Kimbo off leash in a green space near Freedom Plaza in Washington DC, a bus of Russian tourists unloaded a few yards away. Before long, more than a dozen people gathered around, laughing or murmuring their pleasure at Kimbo's antics. If I had a tip jar, I bet we would have made a few bucks.

This won't be Kimbo's first RV trip. Back in 2013, he kept Denise company on her trip to Pueblo, Colorado with Janet Wilson of Occupy the Roads. As soon as they got on the road, Kimbo found his place on the RV's dashboard.

I've even taken Kimbo on bicycle rides, sometimes pulling him on a trailer, other times tethering him to my bicycle. As long as he gets regular walks and ample fetch, we do pretty much anything we want to with Kimbo.

Here are some of my favorite adventures with him.
