The tour starts Feb. 4 and will take us as far south as Guerrero Negro in Baja California Sur. For 21 days, we'll join about 40 other RVs in a caravan that will include visits to some of Mexico's best wineries and a boat ride to the middle of a lagoon where more than 2,000 grey whales spend the winter. Along the way, we'll enjoy Carnaval in Ensendada, see the world's largest saltworks, and enjoy amazing landscapes we've never seen before.
We joined the Escapees RV club in 2017 after meeting Bob and Cindy Pettit while working in Yellowstone. They also suggested joining the Escapees subgroup called the Mexican Connection. It's a charity-driven nonprofit caravan every February that helps introduce RVers to exploring Mexico. Proceeds from the trip, which also includes in-kind donations, are donated to communities along the route. The trip always ends in Mexico, with caravan participants finding their way back to the United States (or exploring Mexico further). Caravan leaders, called wagon masters, provide ideas for things to see and routes to get there after the caravan ends. Participants can travel alone on the way back home, but most meet others who want to see some of the same things further into Mexico or on the way back to the United States.
I don't have a summer job lined up yet, and that might be as amazing as Yellowstone was for me in 2017, but for now, I'm betting Wine to Whales will steal the show for us this year.
