Update: Texas to New Mexico to Colorado

Here's a recap of our travels up until now: we've been to three states in as many weeks. The trip so far has been a mix of visits with family, stays at state parks, one tourist destination, and volunteer service. Along the way, Kimbo has fetched, gotten countless thorns stuck in his feet, and needed a trip to the vet (he's OK).
The Pecos River cuts a canyon through west Texas that's as wide as it is beautiful.

Texas

We started our trip on Sun., April 2. First stop: Palmetto State Park. Then we visited San Antonio to see my folks and Denise's brother Jaime, his wife, and their kids. Next we visited Denise's parents in Corpus Christi and spent a few days at the beach. Del Rio was fun -- we spent time with Denise's brother Albert, his wife, and their kids. They took us to Lake Amistad -- the largest lake in Texas -- to ride jet skis. Denise and I went across the border to spend some time in Ciudad Acuña where we did some shopping and got our hair done. We then spent a few days at Balmorhea State Park, the largest spring-fed pool in Texas. We considered visiting El Paso, but decided to head north and finally get out of Texas.

New Mexico

We made it out of Texas, but it came at a price. While we did see Carlsbad Caverns (such a majestic sight), I wanted to see some of the sights in Roswell, but we arrived just after sunset and everything was closed. So Denise just kept driving through to Santa Fe. Insomnia has it's benefits. We stopped in a Wal-Mart parking lot, slept in the next day, and did some much needed resupplying. We were so exhausted from the drive, we didn't have much desire to see any of the wonderful attractions in Santa Fe. It was the first time we were noticeably on each other's nerves and we spent the next day mostly in the RV. We agreed to move on and leave exploring Santa Fe for another day.

Colorado

On April 22, we arrived in Pueblo, Colorado. This is one of our major destinations on the trip, other than my workamping job at Yellowstone National Park. It's also the first volunteer service we've had on the trip and it couldn't come at a better time. The previous weeks were like a vacation, but we missed doing something productive. We'll spend the next week or so contributing to a community space -- making art, helping remodel a once abandoned house, and giving to a cause we dearly support. About 5 years ago, we almost sold everything to move to Pueblo to help run this community center. If we're able to make traveling in an RV a long-term project, Pueblo will be a place we come to on a regular basis.

Read Denise's recap of  our time at Pueblo House so far.

We took Kimbo to the vet today because he's had a swollen spot between his toes on his left front paw that hasn't improved in the past week. It's either a reaction to a thorn (there were loads at the beach and throughout all of our trip so far) or he may have an allergy. He's on antibiotics for the next 3 weeks and we'll just see how he does.

About Blogging Infrequently

We've done a poor job of blogging about what we've been up to for a few reasons:
  • Facebook and Instagram are easier -- we post there almost daily, that's why we added an Instagram widget to the blog's right rail
  • Blogger on mobile is terrible -- the mobile app is not easy to use and it often generates errors in the blog post; we can post on Blogger in a mobile browser, but it's a pain to scroll around
  • We've been having so much fun -- we've either been swimming, hiking, exploring, or making things. But we realize we really should document this trip beyond Instagram photos.
